The Physical Performance Show BONUS EPISODE: AUS Tokyo Recap: Genevieve Gregson & Patrick Tiernan

Genevieve Gregson & Patrick Tiernan

On this bonus episode we are showcasing the grit and willpower of two of our Australian athletics team members Genevieve Gregson Nee LaCaze and Patrick Tiernan.

Most of us will have seen both of these athletes endure Olympic performances that they did not expect with Genevieve Gregson on the final water hurdle of the 3000m steeplechase succumbing to a ruptured Achilles. It was heartbreaking for everyone watching, later that evening, as Gen sat in the medical room with a splint on her leg she posted to social media “I’m heartbroken and don’t have the words right now to respond to you all, but in short, Ruptured Achilles on the last water jump Happy Birthday me, thank you for the support and messages I’ll try to respond in time for now I need to mend my heart, soul and achilles”. At the time of our catchup, Gen was just several days post achilles tendon repair, in managed isolation and quarantine and the emotions are still very raw.

In addition on this bonus episode, you’ll hear from Aussie hero, Patrick Teirnan, with just 150m left to run in the men’s 10,000m track final, fell valiantly, picking himself up several times to get across that finish line. The fall was out of absolute exhaustion with possible effects from the heat. You’ll hear Pat outline how the 10,000m race has been one of great highs and great lows. Pat was in hotel quarantine in Brisbane, he reflects on the disappointment of getting so close to what would have been a career best performance with a certain top 10 finish in the 10,000m final before things didn’t go to plan.
