Qualifications

Bachelor of Health Sciences (Podiatry)

Why did I become a Podiatrist?

I have always been drawn to a career in health care and was particularly interested in finding a path that was both impactful and slightly different from the norm. While researching career options, I came across podiatry. At the time, I knew very little about the profession, which sparked my curiosity and led me to explore it further.

What I discovered was a field far more complex and essential than I had initially realised. The lower limb plays a critical role in overall mobility and quality of life, yet it often receives less attention compared to other areas of allied health. I also became aware of the significant demand for podiatry services, particularly in high-risk and chronic care settings. This combination of clinical complexity and genuine community need confirmed that podiatry was the right path for me.

I began my career working primarily with diabetic and high-risk patients, developing strong skills in preventative care and lower limb health management. Wanting to expand my expertise, I later moved to Australia to further develop my knowledge in biomechanics and sports podiatry, broadening the scope of care I provide to patients of all activity levels.

About Lockey:

I was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, where sport and physical activity played a significant role in my upbringing. I have participated in rugby union, touch rugby, surf lifesaving, karate, boxing, and motocross. This strong sporting background has given me a deep appreciation for movement, performance, and injury prevention.

My mother is Kiwi and my father is Australian, and although I visited Australia occasionally growing up, I made the move to the Gold Coast in 2025 to reconnect with family and embrace a new chapter professionally and personally. Since relocating, I have valued every opportunity to contribute to the local community and continue developing my clinical skills.

Passions/interests:

I am passionate about health and believe we only have one body — it deserves to be looked after and supported to function at its best. Whether working with high-risk patients, athletes, or individuals simply wanting to move comfortably, my goal is always to improve long-term function and quality of life.

Outside the clinic, I enjoy strength training, boxing, motocross, and spending time in the garden. Staying active allows me to better understand the demands placed on the body and reinforces the importance of proactive, preventative care.
